There have been a lot of great games that have come out. They pushed through pretty quickly and then the numbers dropped off … what’s the subscriber number today and is it still going down?Ī: It’s not surprising to see the numbers peak around the release of an expansion and then, toward the end of an expansion cycle, it’s not surprising to see them go down. Q: When you say “people are ready for new content in “WoW,” we have to talk about subscriber numbers. I think people are ready for new content in “WoW.” It’s got a lot of great content so we’re really excited about it. It represents some of the best and most diverse content we’ve created for “WoW.” I think “WoW” players are really eager for the new continent to explore, the new pandaren race, new monk class, the ability to level their previous characters up to level 90. We’ve been working on this expansion for a couple of years now. Q: How important is “Mists of Pandaria” overall to Blizzard?Ī: It’s very important. Last week Blizzard co-founder and president Mike Morhaime answered questions about the company’s outlook going forward.

Now Blizzard is revamping the game and introducing adorable kung-fu fighting panda people alongside those other races while planning the future of “World of Warcraft.” Meanwhile, a team is hard at work on a top secret follow-up project, “Titan.” Do pandas have what it takes to send “WoW” to record numbers? Or has it already peaked? The game lost one million subscribers in three months this year and, as of last month, just 9.1 million subscribed. In August, the company’s parent Activision Blizzard reported revenue from subscriptions for the quarter, including those for “WoW,” at $220 million, down from $359 million a year ago.
